How to Play Rocky Rhythms Quick Rhythm Card Game
- You will use 1 less campsite token than the number of players you have (4 players use 3 campsite tokens). Place campsite tokens on the board in their matching place (e.g. tent at the tent site)
- Shuffle the note cards. Deal each player 4 cards.
- Choose 1 person to be the dealer. Sit in a circle if possible with the game board in center.
- Play like Spoons.
- Each player tries to match 4 notes or rests.
- 4 whole notes/semibreves
- 4 quarter/crotchet rests
- The dealer begins by taking one card off the deck to have 5 cards in their hand. They will remove one card and pass it face down to the player on their left.
- Each player picks from the cards the former player has discarded and discards to the next person on their left.
- If the dealer runs out of cards, they can pick up from the last player’s discard pile.
- Each player tries to match 4 notes or rests.
- When a player has 4 of a kind, they will grab a campsite token from the game board to claim points.
- How to win:
- Players must be strategic in order to get their 5 points! If needed, keep track of score on a separate piece of paper.
- The game can be won in as few as 2 rounds, but can also last several more rounds.
ALTERNATE GAMEPLAY IDEAS
- For 5-8 players: print 2 decks of cards (to have 80 total cards).
- To make the gameplay longer or shorter, change the number of points for winning.
- For upper level students, instead of matching 4 notes, they must get a “run” of 4 (e.g. equaling 1 beat, 2 beats, 3 beats, 4 beats). You can mix notes & rests.
