How to Play Pumpkin Pitch Landmark Notes Game

GAMEPLAY (2-4 PLAYERS)
  1. Each player chooses one of the ripe pumpkin plants as their row, then each receives all 16 cards that have the chosen plant on the back. There are 14 pitch cards and 2 pest cards per player.
  2. Each player muse remove their 2 pest cards and lay them face up, then shuffle their remaining cards and lay them face down in a draw pile next to the pest cards.
  3. Players flip the top card of their draw piles at the same time. Highest pitch wins the round and is placed on the corresponding pitch in the winner’s row. If the winning pitch is already on the player’s row, they should stack the pitch cards. If there is a tie, both players may place the pitch in their rows.
Note: Each pitch card features a note on a staff, while the game board has the names of the pitches in scientific pitch notation. Players must correctly identify the pitch on their card to figure out where it will be placed on the game board.
  4. The losing card(s) are placed in each player’s discard pile. Discard face up to differentiate between draw and discard piles.
  5. If a player does not draw the strongest card of the round, they can play a pest card to overpower their opponent(s) and place their flipped card — whatever its value — on its appropriate spot in their row. All other players must the place their flipped cards into their discard piles. Only one pest card may be played per round; once one player uses their pest card, the round is over. There is no way to cancel an opponent’s use of a pest card. Each pest card can only be used once and must be removed from play (NOT placed in discard pile) after use — so each player has 2 opportunities to overturn a match in their favor.
  6. When a player’s draw pile is used up, reshuffle the discard pile, turn face down, and keep going.
  7. The first player to fill every pumpkin pitch in their row with at least 1 card wins! Stacked cards do not give any point advantage.

ALTERNATE GAMEPLAY IDEAS (2 players recommended — split larger group into 2 player match-ups)

Easier: Follow original gameplay but put the 2 pest cards in each player’s draw pile. If a pest is drawn by either player, no card is placed on the board. If both players draw pest cards, both are discarded. Pest cards stay in circulation with the rest of the pitch cards no matter how often drawn.

Harder: Follow original gameplay with single use pest cards separated from the draw pile. Use a pest card to cancel the round (both the player and their opponent’s flipped cards go into discard) AND remove one card from the opponent’s board, placing it into their discard.
